From April 14 to 16 at Gaétan Boucher sports center, the seventh edition of the annual Lassonde-Tyler 70 and older tournament was up and running. All in all, ten teams were competing in friendly play-offs. More than a hundred hockey players were united for the week-end. All of them are over 70 years old. They come from Saint-Lambert, Greenfield Park, Longueuil, Ottawa or even Peterborough, nothing can tell the elderly players apart. Once the skates are on, they are all agile, flexible and they are being encouraging both on and off the ice.
André Décarufel, 81 years old says that ‘’comradeship and brotherhood between players are very strong between players. It’s been 30 years that I swear to my wife, it’s the last, but I’m always playing hockey.’’
Henri Richard, Jean Béliveau and Gordie Howe can be proud. Players are still as passionate about hockey as they were in their first years. Hockey’s is still very much so in the hearts of players from another era.
